The Ugly Truth About Bodybuilding
After the video, come back to listen to me get nasty about the bodybuilding magazines that influence millions astray – I call them the muscle rags.
Did I just hear you say, “But if it’s in print, then it must be true…right?”
Sorry.
Bodybuilding magazines are, perhaps, the most deceitful communication medium in the fitness industry.
Although some attempt to print reliable training and dieting recommendations, with good intentions, most are just propaganda, lies, and fraud to protect their vested interests!
C’mon Vince, not all these magazines, publishers or editors set out to commit fraud.
Maybe not, but when I read ignorant and stupid advice over and over again in bodybuilding magazines, it leads me to believe that it must be fraud or they are simply incompetent and unqualified to give advice.
And I don’t care if I sound harsh. Keep in mind that the public views fitness magazines as an expert source, one to be trusted, so I need to be hard on them to represent the average guy like you and me who are just trying to build a better body.
The Muscle Rags Dilemma
-> If only truthful, useful and factual info were printed in muscle magazines, it would be difficult to fill 200+ pages every month. Magazines would be reduced to 10 % content and 90% advertising (although some are already doing this!)
This would lead to the magazine being reduced from monthly to quarterly or bi-monthly at best. This would lead to financial suicide since money made from magazines is not because of newsstand sales or subscriptions…
WHAT?! It’s not?
Heck, no! Muscle magazines profit from supplement advertisers!
Less magazine circulation means less advertising. Less advertising leads to less supplement sales. Do you see how the vicious circle revolves?
No wonder you are so friggin confused!
Each month, a new issue must be replenished with a new ‘vault of knowledge’, so new training programs, philosophies and techniques must be invented each month to keep the readers entertained, yet disillusioned.
One issue you read about 10 sets of 3 and then you read about 4 sets of 4 and then 10 sets of 10, etc. Sometimes you read different programs in each issue!
Why? Because the muscle rags are very smart…actually they are geniuses in a sick kind of way. They know that their readers will implement various training programs every month, resulting in little to show for all their sweat and hard work.
And their only consolation is to look forward to next month’s issue for hope that they will stumble upon the Holy Grail of workouts. Because you never know when the next ground-breaking system will be discovered, do you?! This is the media’s power over the public’s ignorance, a force that leads you to buy more and more supplements.
