How To Perform Bodybuilding Workout Routines Even Without A Barbell

Generally, when people think about bodybuilding exercises, they also think of barbells. The reason for this is that all classic bodybuilding moves incorporate the use of a barbell.

For instance, you can perform the military press, the power clean, the squat, the bench press and the dead lift while using a barbell. There are however, many bodybuilding exercises you can do without using a barbell, which opens more doors of successful training.

There are as many reasons to do bodybuilding exercises without barbells as there are people who do them. Some may want to work out at home yet have no access to a barbell.

Or perhaps you travel a lot, and have to use hotel gyms and the like that have a few machines and some free weights but no barbell. All of the sudden when you’re used to having barbells around and then you don’t, you realize you have been taking them for granted for all this time.

Alternatively, you may be looking for a way to inject some fresh life into a boring routine, or to target different sides of your body individually to help balance out weak spots and prevent injuries. Regardless of the reason, all bodybuilding exercises can be changed to be performed without the traditional barbell.

Starting with some simple switches, you can take the barbell out of many exercises and replace it with two dumbbells without having to change the movement itself much at all.

Using two dumbbells while pressing at the same time or alternating the fashion you can perform the bench press. You can perform the goblet squat by holding one dumbbell in front of your chest while during squats and you can exercise with them by holding one on either side of your body using your arms straight.

You can use dumbbells to perform shoulder presses or even dead lifts as you use two dumbbells in front of your feet. You do not have to include the use in your regular bodybuilding workouts for any reason if you so choose.

The only bodybuilding exercise mentioned above that cannot be switched directly to dumbbells is the power clean exercise. However, there are so many other good bodybuilding exercises you can do that give you good results. You may want to exercise with one arm bent over rows for the middle back. While holding dumbbells at the side of the body you can do shrugs or even consider incorporating chin-ups and push-ups to exercise your back.

Don’t be afraid that if you lose access to a barbell you lose your bodybuilding exercises as well. Almost every great barbell exercise can be performed utilizing dumbbells, or can be replaced with other effective bodybuilding moves and routines. So whether you are looking for some variation or a way to ensure your workout stays intact in your home basement, you have nothing to worry about.
