<p><strong>EC:  Chad, thanks for agreeing to this interview for the site.  It&#8217;s hard to believe that EricCressey.com has been &#8220;live&#8221; since 2006, and this is the first time we&#8217;ve gotten you on-board for a feature.  Most of my readers are probably familiar with you already, but what have you been up to lately?</strong></p>
<p>CW: First off, I want to say that it&#8217;s a pleasure to be here. You offer top-notch information to a wide variety of clients and that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m happy to do this interview. This is one of the few websites that I read on a regular basis.</p>

<p>Over the last few years, since moving to Los Angeles, I&#8217;ve gotten back to training more people one-on-one. In this town, it&#8217;s all about fat loss. People want to get lean and ripped, like, yesterday. In LA, immediate gratification isn&#8217;t fast enough. So I&#8217;ve spent time really honing my training and nutrition parameters to help people burn fat in record time.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve also been working with a lot of professional fighters. There&#8217;s no greater challenge than developing a fighter because he needs to build elite levels of strength, endurance, and mobility at the same time. The cool part is that my work with fighters &#8211; and the parameters I use for burning fat &#8211; actually coalesce. Why? It&#8217;s simple: the quickest way to get a leaner, stronger body is to train more like an athlete &#8211; especially a fighter. So my challenge was to create a system to get non-athletes to experience the same results that my athletes, such as Ralek Gracie, get when training with me personally.</p>

<p><strong>EC: Gracie&#8217;s rocking your &#8220;Body of FIRE&#8221; logo on his banner at the beginning of this clip; let&#8217;s talk about that.  You&#8217;ve got a new fat loss e-book out (<a href="http://tinyurl.com/bofire" target="_blank">Body of F.I.R.E.</a>).  Besides the obvious fact that a lot of people are&#8230;well&#8230;fat, what inspired you to write it?</strong></p>
<p>CW: Honestly, I was getting tired of hearing outrageous claims from trainers who&#8217;ve never transformed anyone. This industry is replete with self-proclaimed experts. Now, I&#8217;m certainly not against the idea of making money off your information, but when the sales pitch is exaggerated to the point of hysteria it becomes a little too much to stomach. It&#8217;s funny because people often associate me with methods that are solely intended to build size and strength. In reality, I have more experience with training people for fat loss than anything else.</p>
<p>So I took it upon myself to create a system that will transform people faster than they ever thought possible. That&#8217;s why I created my new <a href="http://tinyurl.com/bofire" target="_blank"><strong>Body of F.I.R.E.</strong></a> program. In my experience, nothing transforms a person quicker than an effectively designed Full-body, Intense, Resistance Exercise program &#8211; hence the acronym.</p>

<p>However, I didn&#8217;t want to make a program that was only for advanced athletes, so I took a lot of time tweaking the parameters so anyone can get incredible results on the program.</p>
<p><strong>EC: Along those same lines, where are most people falling short on the fat loss front?  Why isn&#8217;t the status quo getting the job done?</strong></p>
<p>CW: This is easy to answer. The first reason why people don&#8217;t lose fat, and keep it off, is because they don&#8217;t know how to eat to stimulate their metabolism. Most diets shut down fat burning and make people feel miserable.</p>
<p>The second reason is due to their training program. It&#8217;s imperative to stimulate as many muscle fibers as possible with full-body workouts while keeping the rest periods to a minimum in order to generate a large cardiovascular response.</p>
<p>The third component is with their progression plan, or lack thereof. The only way to make your body lose fat week after week is to make it to do work without burning out your nervous system. Building athleticism is a key to making this work.</p>
<p>Finally, tissue health is probably the most underrated and unappreciated aspect of body transformation. There are simple steps you can take to keep your joints healthy, and this is essential to sticking with a program. There are a lot of crazy programs out there that quickly impose an insane amount of stress on the joints. If you get injured, your fat loss endeavor immediately comes to a screeching halt.</p>
<p><strong>EC: Let&#8217;s talk about the program itself.  What&#8217;s unique about it that sets it apart from other fat loss methods that may fall short?</strong></p>
<p>CW: Quickly transforming your body starts with the right diet. You&#8217;ll never lose fat unless your nutrition program focuses on foods that are high in nutrients but low in calories. It&#8217;s all about food quality. You can eat an entire bag of potato chips because they contain no real nutrients. Therefore, your brain never gets the memo that your body is satisfied. However, you&#8217;d never be able to finish the same amount of calories from, say, blueberries or broccoli because your brain quickly gets the signal that your body is getting the nutrients it needs to support your metabolism. Bottom line: the only way to see your abs is to get your diet in order first.</p>
<p>The second component is with your training program. As I mentioned, it&#8217;s essential to train in a way that induces the largest metabolic cost that exercise can create. Tabata&#8217;s research taught us that we need to think less about the metabolic changes that are occurring during a workout and focus more on what&#8217;s happening after you leave the gym. An hour jog only burns calories while you&#8217;re doing it, plus it&#8217;s very hard on your hips, knees, and ankles. High intensity cardio, on the other hand, will stimulate your metabolism to keep burning calories long after you stop training &#8211; if you know how to do it right. Instead of running on a treadmill, focus on full-body circuits such as split jacks, jumping jacks, and burpees that are performed for multiple rounds with minimal rest.</p>

<p>With regard to weight training, it&#8217;s important to do three things. First, for every other workout, lift loads that are heavy enough to recruit all of your muscle fibers. Most people lose size and strength on a fat loss plan because they focus on light, high-rep weight training exercises that are performed to failure. This is a travesty because it&#8217;s not optimal for maximum muscle fiber recruitment. Focus on weights that are between a 6-12 repetition maximum, and accelerate all of your lifts. This ensures that you&#8217;re recruiting all of your muscle fibers with every rep. As the saying goes: if you don&#8217;t use it, you lose it. A full-body circuit comprised of an upper body push, an upper body pull, a lower body exercise, and a core exercise is outstanding for creating a huge metabolic cost when the rest periods are kept to a minimum.</p>
<p>From there, I have my clients perform &#8220;cardio strength&#8221; exercises. These are exercises that don&#8217;t require as much load as a strength circuit, but they can still recruit all of your muscle fibers when performed correctly. For example, I like to pair up the kettlebell swing with a push-up for descending reps. You&#8217;ll start with, say, 13 reps of the swing and then you&#8217;ll drop to the floor and knock out 13 push-ups. Then you&#8217;ll jump back to your feet and do 12 swings followed by 12 push-ups. Next it&#8217;s 11 swings followed by 11 push-ups. You&#8217;ll continue with this sequence until you reach one rep for each exercise. When you perform each exercise at top speed, and when you keep rest to a minimum, it&#8217;s awesome for burning fat while boosting athleticism.</p>

<p>The third essential component of body transformation comes from an effective progression plan. Many people stop getting results on a fat loss program after a few weeks because their parameters are stagnant. You must force your body to do more work over time. You don&#8217;t need to keep adding weight to your lifts. Instead, focus on adding a rep or set, or increase your work interval, or shorten your rest periods by five seconds with each workout. This ensures that your metabolism is constantly being challenged. In my new program, I use a combination of these progression methods in each phase.</p>
<p><strong>EC: The thing I noticed right away is the dedicated focus to staying healthy with good soft tissue work and a focus on mobility and athletic movement.  It seems like a lot of fat loss programs out there are all about just making people move a ton to tire them out and burn calories &#8211; but there is rarely (if ever) a focus on the quality of movement.  Inevitably, exercise technique goes down the crapper and many folks wind up injured (in addition to being raging a**holes from caloric deprivation).  Can you speak a bit to how you attacked this aspect of the program?</strong></p>
<p>CW: You&#8217;re right, Eric, getting the most out of your workouts comes from quality of movement. And getting the most out of your movements comes from having healthy joints that are in balance. Just like high quality foods are essential to boosting your metabolism, so are the exercises. I spent a lot of time developing the exercise guide in this resource by including big, high-resolution pictures along with many tips and technique guidelines to ensure that everyone is doing each exercise perfectly.</p>
<p>Furthermore, each workout starts with a few mobility exercises. Most people are stiffest in their ankles, hips, T-spine, and shoulders so it&#8217;s important to mobilize those areas before you start training. The good news is that it doesn&#8217;t take long &#8211; just a few minutes when you know what to do. And each workout ends with a few, key stretches for the same areas. This is great insurance to keep you on track. A program is only as good as the corrective exercises it contains to keep you from throwing your joints out of whack.</p>
</p>
<p><strong>EC: Let&#8217;s talk nutrition.  What can readers expect on that front in Body of Fire?</strong></p>
<p>CW: The nutrition program is as effective as it is user-friendly. The first step, as I mentioned, comes from replacing low-quality foods in your current eating plan with nutrient-dense, low-calories foods. The second step is to control insulin and add in certain, key nutrients that research has shown to have the greatest impact on increasing your metabolism. You must eat frequently, every 3-4 hours, and most people know that. But what might surprise people is that front loading your calories, where breakfast is your highest calorie meal and dinner is the lowest, is a simple way to supercharge your metabolism and burn fat. The third component comes from your workout nutrition. If you take branched-chain amino acids in the right amounts, before and after training, along with a specific post-workout feeding you&#8217;ll accelerate fat burning, recovery, and performance.</p>
<p>The nutrition plan, when paired with the workouts I outline in the program, produce incredible results. My client, Jon, lost over 40 pounds of fat on the program. Since he&#8217;s an athlete, he couldn&#8217;t afford to lose any size and strength. As you can see from the before and after pictures, he created what many guys might consider to be the ultimate body. I&#8217;ll concede that he shaved, tanned, and lost his shoes, but I think the rest speaks for itself.</p>

<p>Thus, here is how to not spend all day in the gym to get toned arms:</p>
<p>1. Big muscles first: Always prioritize bigger muscles first in your workouts. The last thing you want is an exhausted smaller muscle limiting the development of a bigger muscle. And remember that the more muscle mass you activate during your workouts, the more fat loss you will achieve.</p>
<p>2. Don&#8217;t think isolating smaller muscles is useless: If you want the tightest arms possible, you have to directly work your arms. You will not get the most toned arms possible by doing push-ups and squats all day. You have to provide a local stimulus for change.</p>
<p>3. Make intensity the hallmark of your workouts: Put on some headphones and wear a baseball cap if necessary, and go all out. Without intensity results will be mediocre at best. Now keep in mind that if you are just starting out you need to take things slow.</p>
<p>4. Use variety to your advantage: Not only does your mind like more variety, but your body likes it too. So make sure you sprinkle your workouts with different exercises every so often so that you don&#8217;t stagnate. And stagnation is the strongest de-motivator.</p>
<p>5. Work all the heads in your arm: Your triceps has three heads and your biceps has two heads. Thus, a complete arm toning program should target all of these components. If you only work two heads, as most people do, you will not get the best results possible.</p>

<p>But there is a catch, increasing intensity is not easy. It&#8217;s take effort and determination.</p>
<p>So here is how to increase the intensity of your fat loss workouts:</p>
<p>1. Above and beyond reps: There is a way to complete more repetitions than your body can naturally handle, with a workout partner. No matter what, however, make sure you form stays sound. Never let your body get out of alignment when increasing intensity.</p>
<p>2. Slow reps: Although this shouldn&#8217;t be the main focus of your workouts, slowing down the tempo to five seconds up and five seconds down is a great way to increase the amount of time your muscle is under tension. Keep in mind that this technique is very painful!</p>
<p>3. Drop down sets: This technique involves doing one set at a heavy weight, then another set at a moderate weight and finally, one last set with a lighter weight. And you can&#8217;t rest between each successive set. This technique is very challenging and you have to make sure you form stays good.</p>
<p>4. Giant sets: With a giant set you do one exercise immediately after another without any rest in-between. This accomplishes a couple things. First, you activate more muscle mass. Second, it automatically decreases rest time. Finally, it increases the amount of calories you burn outside of the gym.</p>
<p>5. Less rest: Decreasing rest periods is a really effective strategy for increasing the amount of calories your body burns after your workouts. And if you burn more calories you are more likely to lose weight at a faster rate.</p>
<p>Intensity really is king when it comes to the fastest rates of weight loss. Although increasing intensity is not easy, it&#8217;s effective. Just make sure you take action here now and not later!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Want more muscle mass? Here is a great turbulence coaching workout you can do. It&#8217;s workout A from the 8-Week TT for muscle program. Start off with a bodyweight Warm -up of 10 Y-squats, 10 pushups, eight Diagonal lunges, and 10 inverted Rows. A warmup is important, especially if you&#8217;re coaching in a cold environment. A warmup will help you recover far faster between strength coaching exercises and prevent injury.</p>
<p>After the Body weight warmup, Craig Ballantyne, creator of this workout, wants you you do perform express Warm-up sets. We are going to kick off with a 2-board press for six repetitions at a tempo of 2-0-1. Use half of the weight you would use in an ordinary set. A 2-board press, get a partner to hold the board on your chest. Get two two by 4&#8217;s nailed together, a yoga block, or any other piece of material that is 6 inches in thickness.</p>
<p>You may just &#8220;wing it&#8221; and stop the movement six inches above your chest. If you&#8217;ve got the board, simply get a partner hold the board on your chest, right where you may bring the bar down.</p>
<p>If you do not have a spotter, be cautious with the bench press. Or, you are better off performing the movement with dumbbells, and stopping the movement just 6 inches above your chest. Keep your elbows close to your sides, and lower the bar straight down to the base of your chest. Lower the bar on to the block, and then press the bar back up.</p>
<p>It is important to get your system right. You may use your warmup set for technique practice. A tempo of 2-0-1 means that you lower the bar with two 2nd count, no pause, and press with a 1 second count. Second warmup exercise is the DB Row. Utilise a 2-0-1 tempo using 50% of your actual weight. Perform six repetitions. Rest 1 minute and perform another set of the same warmup superset using seventy five percent of your actual weight.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You will find that chest exercises are one of the most frequent exercises performed down the gym and are very important if you are trying to get rid of your man boobs.</p>
<p>The chest muscles basically are made up of two muscles which lie on top of the ribs on the chest wall, the pectorals minor and major.They consist of two main muscles, the pectoralis minor muscle which lies against the rib cage and then on top of this is the bigger pectoralis major. The larger muscle is usually what gives the chest its size and appearance.</p>
<p>The chest is one of the main big muscle groups within the body and is frequently thought of as a good sign of masculinity. Good strong pectoral muscles will often provide good overall upper body strength and fitness which is also important in a variety of sports.</p>
<p>Many chest workouts not only focus on the chest wall but also work the triceps muscles at the back of the arms as well as the shoulder muscles. Therefore, doing a chest workout will develop the overall shape and size of the upper body.</p>
<p>Warming up before performing any of these exercises is very important to reduce the chances of injury. A particularly effective aerobic exercise is rowing on an indoor machine. It is great at stretching the upper body muscles. It will also promote the blood flow to the muscles getting them ready for the workouts thereby lowering the risk of injury.</p>
<p>The push up is one of those simple chest exercise workouts that works well. This does not require any special equipment or weights and can quite easily be done at home in the bedroom. You should lie flat, face down on the floor with your arms around shoulder width apart. Then, keeping your toes on the ground and body straight, slowly lift yourself up. When you reach the top you can then, again slowly, lower yourself down and then repeat the whole process over again.</p>
<p>If you find this exercise a little difficult at first, an effective trick is to keep your knees in contact with the floor instead of the toes. When lowering yourself back down towards the floor make sure you perform this slowly as it will also exercise the same muscles. As you improve, one way to ,make this exercise more difficult is to move your hands slightly wider than shoulder width.</p>
<p>The bench press is a common exercise performed in the gym and is excellent. Lying flat on your back on a bench hold the barbell out at arms length. A training partner during this exercise is advisable to avoid injuries. Then slowly lower the barbel down to the chest and then again slowly, push it back up until the arms are outstretched.</p>
<p>It is vital to not perform any jerky movements or bounce the weights off the chest wall. Three sets of around eight repetitions once to twice a week is optimal and you will soon notice a change in your chest shape.</p>

<p>The claims made by Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle mostly seem to be preposterous and perhaps even unbelievable. The testimonials ; come on! Do they really come from real persons it doesn&#8217;t seem to me that real folks really write this kind of ott gibberish? It appears somebody took a large amount of effort for whatever reason to put together one long winded page as their official internet site. I know when I read it my mind went back and forth between legitimacy and sting. Notwithstanding the cost which appeared a bit pricey for an eBook, I had to admit the actual idea was a bit fascinating. It&#8217;s getting tougher every day to distinguish the valid weight loss programs from the ones that aren&#8217;t so&#8230;</p>
<p>I recommend a litmus test is in order before you purchase Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s commence with the person behind the book. Tom Venuto is a featured author in mags like Natural Bodybuilding Fitness, Men&#8217; Exercise and Men&#8217;s Fitness, iron man and a small excerpt about his latest book found its way into the Oprah mag. His presence has also enhanced the pages of lots of internet sites. Oh and let&#8217;s not forget Tom&#8217;s hardcover book The body fat Solution ( Penguin / Avery books ) is a national best-seller.</p>
<p>But wait, Tom is an iron pumper first, and he has based his full system of fat burning techniques on firsthand awareness of weightlifters and fitness models. A picture is worth 1,000 words as they say ; Mr. Venuto seems to practice what he preaches. My mind entertained &#8220;Steroids&#8221; for a second then realized this man has been competing in drug-tested competitions for over 20 years. My conclusion was that he must have done it naturally ; no one can evade the scrutiny of drug testing for that long.</p>

<p>Vince&#8217;s program became popular because he understands how difficult it is for people to gain lean body mass and lose fat with a &#8220;one-size-fits-all&#8221; approach. We all have different body types: ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph. And each of these requires a different method for fat loss or building lean body mass.</p>
<p>Vince has the skinny ectomorph body (though you would not know that now!). Years ago, he worked like a dog in the gym following traditional muscle-building programs, yet he could not gain an ounce. He kept his ectomorph flat chest and small shoulders. It did not matter how hard he worked, he could not gain anything like the other guys in the gym who worked out less than he did.</p>
<p>So, this is how he developed his program. He found ways to build mass based on his body type and by doing so; he learned how to help not only ectomorphs but also mesomorphs and endomorphs.</p>
<p>Although, mesomorphs do not need much help as they are naturally muscular, Vince&#8217;s program can help them maintain their fantastic shape. Women will remain shapely and men can maintain their broad shoulders and develop great abs.</p>
<p>Endomorphs have soft bodies. They also have difficulty building lean body mass like ectomorphs, but they also have difficulty burning fat and losing weight. Their bodies tend to be &#8220;pudgy.&#8221;</p>
<p>So, how did Vince turn his skinny, ectomorph body into a well-defined, ripped body? He ate the right foods in the right combinations and worked out in such a way to continually challenge his muscles.</p>
<p>You will not gain the wrong weight (fat) and develop a gut like many ectomorphs do by eating too many calories and fattening shakes. Everyday foods are on the menu, but in the right combination.</p>
<p>Conversely, endomorphs tend to starve themselves to lose the fat and wonder why they cannot gain any muscle mass. When you go without eating and workout excessively, you end up stripping the body of lean body mass. Regardless of body type, you need to supply your body with the proper tools to facilitate muscle growth AND you need to work out properly to challenge the muscles.</p>
